    Question

I'll be going to New York in october. I'll be staying for a week and will arrive at the 19th. It's my first time and I would like to get some recomendations on rock clubs, concerts and other stuff I shouldn't miss.

    Cheers
    Thomas

Don Hills is the hip place to be now. http://www.donhills.com/pages/frameset.html
don't get scared by the picture, it isn't really that nice haha. When Acey (J) is out on the road you might catch him DJing here.

Korova Milk Bar (Ave A. btwn 12th & 13th) this bar is designed after the milk bar in Clockwork Orange, that should be enough to make anyone want to go there. (plus they have red bull and vodkas for pretty cheap)

Lion's Den (214 Sullivan Street) you might catch a good band here the only problem is that they book close to 10 bands a night and they are from all different genres. I saw the Vampire Love Dolls here as well as Phantasm, Uranium 235 and a host of others, also had to sit through alot of bad bands.

CBGB (315 Bowery) don't think i have to say much about this place except make sure to check out the bathroom when you are there. used to be alot better some years ago but has turned into a tourist trap lately.

CBGB's Gallery (313 Bowery) on mondays it becomes Alchemy, a gothic nightclub. No industrial/newwave/synth or anything, just goth with a little goth thrown in to mix it up.

Otto's Shrunken Head (538 E 14th St) the decor in this place rocks. pure tiki bar, leopard-print bar stools, tacky wallpaper, the works. punk and rockabilly hangout but they do get alot of metal bands.

Jekyll and Hyde (91 Seventh Avenue South - not the tourist trap uptown) horror themed 'corner' bar. they have scareokie there from time to time.

The Raven (194 Ave A) I've been there on sundays for the goth night, tuesdays for the pychobilly punk night, and wednesdays for their glam punk night.

Irving Plaza (17 Irving Pl - go figure) check here for bigger shows

Knitting Factory (74 Leonard St) you might get lucky and catch a good show here.

Hammerstein Ballroom (311 W 34th St) another place for bigger shows

Roseland Ballroom (239 W 52nd St) another place for bigger shows

Continental (25 Third Avenue - right at St. Marks Place) another staple in the NYC music sceen. great rock n roll club, great location.

Downtime (251 West 30th Street) on saturdays it's transformed into the Albion/Batcave, the largest goth/industrial/darkwave/synthpop/blah blah blah club in NYC. i've seen VNV Nation, The Cr?xshadows, Christian Death, Velvet Acid Christ, and others there. on the 23rd Black Tape For A Blue Girl are playing there. good times to be had.

Though it is not opened, you have to go to 660 6th Avenue. this is The Limelight, at least the church that used to house the Limelight.

The Wreck Room (116 MacDougal Street) no bands or anything but this used to be called the Scrap Bar. Big hangout for bands back in the day like Guns N Roses, La Guns, Faster Pussycat and others when they were in town.

McSorley's Ale House (15 E. 7th St) you can only get McSorley's own brew here but the place is legendary

Also go to St. Marks Place. Some cool shops are there like Slut, Trash & Vaudeville, Religious Sex (think this one might be closed now), Joe's CDs, and right in the middle of the block used to be Coney Island High (Jesse's bar)

    A couple shows for you:
10-19 and 20 Ministry/Hanzel Und Gretyl/My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult - B.B. Kings Blues Club (might see me at one of these shows)

10/22 Death Cab For Cutie/Pretty Girls Make Grave at the Roseland

10/26 Letter Kills/Lostprophets/Story Of The Year and more at the Roseland

    hope this helps.....
